Nintendo DS brain training games

Posted by trainyourmind on April 28, 2008

There is a huge jump on the bandwagon for games to train your brain on the NDS.

I’m still a huge fan of Big Brain Academy but some others are worth a look – more they concentrate on general knowledge or they concentrate on math.

These games are definitely good for your brain and I’ve found my concentration levels go up doing other tasks after playing them.

Everyone should have at least 1 brain training game in their collection.

Brain training games on the Nintendo DS

Posted by trainyourmind on March 3, 2008

There are a multitude of brain training games on the Nintendo DS which offer excellent numeracy and written tests.

It’s worth checking out some of the lesser well known titles as they offer great arithmetic challenges and memorising games.

I can’t recommend such games enough for sharpening your brain which will become lazy if you don’t exercise it.

Lapse of concentration kills lives

Posted by trainyourmind on October 26, 2007

Yesterday, the workmen who were working (a bit of an surprise) on my house left the van outside and the handbrake not correctly on.

The van rolled down the hill, hit a garage and moved an entire brick wall.  It took 9 hours to remove the van due to structural safety issues.

In a seperate incident a car rolled down the driveway and killed a child, apparently one of the unsupervised children let the handbrake off (usually quite difficult to do, or impossible to do in Lexus/Mercedes car as it is a pedal brake).

Engage your handbrake, and your brain I think is the moral of the story.  And put your car in gear if it isn’t an Automatic transmission model.

In a seperate incident, 2 children were swept out to sea and the parents heroically went after them…only to drown and the children were swept back on shore.  Tragic, but you should be aware that this isn’t an uncommon thing where dogs get swept out to sea, the owners goes after them and drowns, the dog is swept back on shore.

Tragic article here

Online poker for mental exercise? Or is it all a gamble?

Posted by trainyourmind on July 16, 2007

I find online poker keeps your brain sharp. Caught napping and it costs you money.

And that is simply how things are in life, but employees just say ‘oh shit, ah they can’t sack me anyway I’ve got a contract’.

Learning Texas Hold Em and pitting your wits against degenerate gamblers worldwide will sharpen your mind….you’ll have to calculate pot odds quickly, decide possible hands and work out where you are at.

So check it out, it’s fun and if you don’t want to spend money, try a poker freeroll with cash prizes but no entry fee.

Mental exercise to defeat senile dementia

Posted by trainyourmind on July 2, 2007

Senile dementia is primarily caused by lack of exercise to your brain.

Just like not exercising your body, it wastes away.

It typically happens when you stop working and don’t use your brain cells.

Tips to stay active – play video games, do puzzles, soduko, write letters or comments, use the Internet.  Add numbers in your head instead of reach for the calculator.

It’ll all keep your head in shape, and almost, a mental ‘gym’ to train your mind.

What the aim of this blog is…

Posted by trainyourmind on June 7, 2007

…to help me rationalise and put down on (cyber)paper what it is the brain is doing.

I mean why do you nearly risk your life running across the road when the man is ‘red’?

Why are we so lazy by nature?

Why do people need work to keep them sane?

Is freewill correct for everyone?

I am a firm believer in the 80/20 split….80% of the nation are non-risk takers and just want to plod through life.  They look at Ferrari’s and big houses, wishing they could somehow attain that.  The other 20% of risk takers see the same material icons but go out and try to shoot for some of it, by taking more risk.

It is no surprise that wealth in captilistic societies is split unevenly….when 80% are the ‘workers’ and 20% are the ‘bosses’ in our world….
